I think the scariest part of the article is where it says that out-of-shape people can reach the point of being out of breath by walking a few steps. If that’s true, then the number of people who are getting “intense” exercise is really very few.
As for me, if I don’t exercise at an intense level every few days, I feel sluggish. I think too many people associate “intense” with “pain”. I would like to see the relationship between pain and intensity explored, but I think there are some places where overlap is appropriate, but many other places where one does not mean the other.
